Pastry-less-ness

It is a sad day today. Today we have discovered that our adventures have thus far been bereft of any pastry. And that is our mission. To find adventure, and the perfect pastry. We've found some adventure, but no pastries. So we have failed thus far.

There is something depressingly sad about finding out how empty your life is without a delicious pastry. And we seem to be having a severe lack of them anywhere near us at any given time. Besides, informs Locksley, half the fun is taking pictures of food you've enjoyed, and watching other people wish they had one too. (How he can watch them remains a mystery to me...)

Anyway, we apologize for the failure to complete our mission to you, and show you the world's most perfect pastries. Guaranteed that we will be more careful in the future. Who would want to miss out on that?

Peace and pastries to all,

Dying To Go

For Christmas this year, from one of our close friends, we recieved a book. "1,000 Places to See Before You Die". She knows how we long to travel, and said "For your planning purposes..." Now we are dying to get going. Well, itching at least. The daily routine now includes getting up and picking up the book (which is on the bedside table), and tagging places that we would really like to see. Then we argue over what would be the best place to start, and where we should go when we are there.

I personally would like to go to England or Ireland first, then swing around for a European tour, followed by a prolonged stop in Egypt.

Locksley on the otherhand, would like to start with a road trip across the U.S., followed by a trip to England and Scotland, then a prolonged stop somewhere else (he didn't specify), preferably where I am not.

But as we tag, and discover more and more places to see, we have realised that never, not once in anyone's lifetime, can you see all there is to see. But Locksley and I vow to be (possibly the first) adventurers to see everyplace in the world... or we will die trying.

Until then dear readers, we are yours,

Getting Antsy... (by Locksley)

Young Lizzy is taking here time getting trips and such ready to go. I understand completely that she needs to save up, nd collect her needs and such things, but why does it take a human so long? I don't bring anything, and can forage as I go. If Lizzy could manage this kind of simpliciity, there would be much more to write about.

But, I see that writing needs be done, to keep our dearest readers (Lizzy's term, not mine)interested, I am going to tell you about a visit I may be taking quite soon to my friend Guy Fox.

He's quite 'a good chap' as he would say, from England. He has been living close to here for a few years now though, ever since the Fox Hunting became out of control in the area he lived.

I am planning to visit him for the Christmas season, as Lizzy will most likely not miss me at all. I find cameras too cumbersome, and who wants pictures of others anyway, so I am warning you that there will be none of Guy Fox, as much as I'm sure he'd like it.

So that is all for now, and I have nothing more to say...

(A Note From Lizzy, who saw this AFTER it was published: I am planning to invite Guy Fox over for the New Years, and there will be pictures. And further more, understanding that Locksely's brain is too small to hold one complete thought in his head, he types so slow, and he probably kept getting up to do stuff, you will understand how this post makes virtually no sense whatever.Peace! )

(A note from Lockley: My brian is a perfect size, and it doesn't hold more than it absolutely nessessary, and I can make sense with a complete thought. So don't pay attention to Lizzy. She is jealous of my superior writing skills!)

(Another note from Lizzy: I am not! And furthermore, you smell like fish!)

(Another note from Locksley: I don't see how smelling like fish has anything to do with this. Jealous!)

Keeping Busy...

Locksley and I are getting ready for the holidays. Makings things. Lots of things. Things that are going on my (Lizzy's) new shop. Things that we will sell to support a big trip. BIG trip. So the few daily readers we have(and anyone else who comes to visit), check out the new page that's coming, "Support Our Adventures" Where you can check out the cool stuff we're (mostly Lizzy is) making, and help make this blog sooo much more interesting to read.

Thanks and Peace,

Yours,

Un-inspired...

We are just so uninspired right now, and we apologize. Upon talking with Locksley, it has been determined that:

1) we are not (for the forseeable future anyway) going to continue our Kentucky posts. We like to put things up as they happen, while they are still fresh, and these certainly are not. Instead we will continue with up-to-date posts. When we have a free minute, we may post the rest of the Kentucky saga.

2) That Locksley would like to try his hand at writing a post or two every so often (heaven help us... :D) so I will reluctantly give this keyboard over to him once in a while.

Thank you for bearing with us!

Peace,

Just Lost...

Wednesday, August 3

Today began an interesting day, exciting, and intensely boring all at the same time. We went out right after breakfast to explore Louisville and the surrounding areas where some of the farms we had come to look at would be.

Locksley and I weren't keen on this part of the trip, mainly because this isn't what we had for an idea of visiting a place. But we buckled into our seats, and headed out with the rest of the crew, hoping something exciting would happen. Well, It didn't. We drove, and drove, and drove. The only thing that was even intensely exciting was driving through Louisville itself. Here are a few pictures of what we saw:

A river boat (over the Ohio River)

I see the City!

I have absolutely no clue how this came out.

A water fountain... in the middle of the sidewalk.

The front of the Louisville Science Museum.

A chandelier.. and if you look close, a red penguin.

Muhammad Ali Blvd.

Oh no! My camera died!

Oh never mind... I turned it off. :) Here is Locksley ready for lunch.

After the ride through Louisville, we drove out into the countryside. Here is what we saw when we left the outskirts of the city :

Horse farms...

Another farm...

Tut tut, it looks like rain.

A field with hay bales... round ones.

I found a tree! do I win?

High Bridge, the tallest bridge over a navigable waterway in the US, and the tallest onto the early 20th century.

The sign about High Bridge.

Oh My! Look at the heat!

Oh my! Look at that sunset!

So we got nice and lost around Harrodsburg, all the fault of GPS Jill in the front seat, and took the really long way back around. I was not in love with nothing to see, but at the same time, it was quite beautiful to see so much open land, and farms around, and the lack of trees make the sunset actually viewable. For the most part though, even the getting lost was not as interesting as it could have been, but at least we were in air-conditioned quarters.

After we figured out where we were, we headed back to the hotel, and had a quick dinner, and hung out watching America's Got Talent, and Chasing Mummies with Zahi Hawass (one of my favorite shows). Locksley disappeared somewhere around that time, and I later found him on the floor near the fridge when I got up to serve some ice cream and brownie bites. I don't even want to know what he was doing, and I am still afraid to ask...

So it didn't end too badly, but a piece of advice to those who may follow in our tracks... don't ever, ever, trust GPS Jill to find you a path, because she will bring you an hour out of your way, to watch the farms, and the sunsets... :)

Until Tomorrow we are,

The Jonas Brothers... :)

Ok, so this didn't happen while we were in Kentucky, But I thought it was pretty amazing, and deserved a spot to interrupt the Kentucky posts.

Locksley and I went to a benefit ball game, raising awareness for texting and driving deaths. We got free tickets last minute at the beginning of the week, and decided to travel up to go see it. It was about that time we found out that the Jonas Brothers (yes, the famous ones... :) ) were going to be playing at the game. OMG! I am not as big a fan as some people are, but hey, they're famous, and why not go see them if you can? So we did, and had a blast. We didn't stay for the whole game because it was absolutely boiling out, but we did stay long enough to find out three things;

1) that the game was almost certainly rigged in favor of the Jonas brothers,

2), that screaming girls are not as ridiculously funny to be around as they are to watch on TV (and it really hurts your ears)

And 3), that The Jonas Brothers look really short (at least from where I was sitting) and aren't half bad to look at (yes, I mean that they are cute).

We left after maybe an hour and a half or so, but we throuroughly enjoyed the time we spent. And here are the pictures we got... well ok, that our Mama got for us because she was closer and had a high-zoom lens.

Nice huh?

To the Zoo, To the Zoo!

Tuesday, August 2

Wow! Two zoos in as many months. Boy do I feel special! Locksley of course wasn't as interested, but no one was really asking him anyway. The family decided that first thing was first, let's have a little fun after being in the car all day for the last two days. So off to the zoo we went, and let me tell you, it kicked some seroius butt. They had a lot of animals that FPZ didn't have when we went a month ago, and a lot more degrees tacked on to the heat too.
When we arrived, the heat was about 100 degrees even, and with 75% hunidity, at least so said the news. We paid admission, got a membership (because it is cheaper to buy the membership than come as guests with our family group...) and started our walk througt the zoo. We saw some animals before stopping at lunch, which I forgot to take a picture of because I was far more interested in the imported african goods in the small gift shop next to our table, and Locksley was far too interested in eating to be bothered helping me remember to take it.
After lunch we saw some more animals... well, what else is there to see? Here are a few pictures of the animals we saw, minus the ones we saw at FPZ (I thought it better not to repeat).

Fish!

More fish (ugly fish)

Turtle swimming too fast for my camera...

And introducing...

King Louie! (Now I can say I've met a King!)

Tarantula cage. Locksley was enjoying himself here.

Locksley had a stare down with this scaly green snake.

Canadian Geese?

NO smoking... or a statement that they don't have puffins that smoke? :)

Baby giraffe that was born a few days after MY birthday.

A large bird with a scary looking beak.

Rhino Butt. I have found that they are not the most social of creatures.

After that, the heat became a little too much for the younger (and a couple of the older) people in our party, and we decided to pack it up and go back to the hotel, but not before getting pennies squished near the gift shop door, and looking longingly into the air-conditioned, item-laden room of things no one ever needs, but have always wanted. I tried to take a picture of the sign outside the zoo, but had a bad time, and no legible pictue came out to show you. However, we are supposed to go back later in the week, if all goes well, and the humidity isn't killer. Maybe they have some good pastries at the gift shop (they advertised snacks...) or at the snack shack (which I assume is for humans, and not the zoo animals)...

We'll let you know!

Until then, Peace from,

From Pennsylvania to the Fields of Oh-i-i-o!

August 2

And now for the exciting continuation of... Driving to Kentucky!

When Locksley and I got up this morning, we tried to think of new ways to have fun in the car. We would hit Kentucky around 5 o'clock, and then drive another couple of hours down to Louisville. So what to do? We made a list of things to do, jotting them down on some hotel pad paper (I love it when they leave paper for me!) and made a pact to do some far more interesting things.

So we went down to breakfast, which I didn't get a picture of. It was alright though, because as it happens, that was the most disgusting plates of scrambled eggs and some sort of overly salty sausage that I had ever eaten. Locklsey wouldn't touch it, but I was forced to eat it all up, and it was only after, I noticed that there were some (still warm) apple turnovers and danishes, which were promptly wisked away by the servers becasue breakfast was over. So much for the start to a great day.

Before we left, I stopped at the little girls room, and while I was waiting, began to talk with a girl from New York. She was interested to know where I had come from, and why there was a raccoon (actually, technically she called him a skunk) hanging on a strap on my belt loop. I explained that Locksley and I were road tripping with the family, and how we take a million pictures no one really wants to see and put them up on a blog that no one really wants to read, and how some of my travel partners (no names here... but you know who you are) were less than pleased to be treavelling with a raccoon, let alone being seen with me carrying one. She said that she had a stuffed dog hat used to go everywhere with her and asked if that was along the same idea. Before I had a chance to answer that, a stall opened up, and it was my turn.

We left the hotel after that, and started down the road. To my dismay, I realised that I had left behind the list of interesting things to do. Uh -Oh. So here's what we did on our trip:

Drove for a couple of hours.

Saw a river.

Saw another river with houses on it.

Stopped at a rest stop.

Watched a movie.

Stopped for lunch.

Made it to Ohio.

Stopped at a rest stop.

Saw a lot of fields.

Watched the sequel to the first movie.

Stopped at a rest stop.

Took a long nap.

Stopped at a rest stop.

Drove through Cinncinati .

Made it to Kentucky!

Saw a couple of funny signs.

(I swear I thought this had said Amish Gardens)

Watched another movie.

Stopped at a rest stop.

Watched out the window.

And then, FINALLY, we made it to Louisville! Well, we didn't actually make it to the center of Louisville, but we made it into the actual city limits. We had a quick dinner, unpacked, and sat in bed, glad the road trip was over. Here's Locklsey, checking out what we got for channels. I guess that's my hint to leave off this and relax. I wonder if they have a good PBS station??

Until tomorrow dear readers, we are yours always,
